Title: Alternator help needed
Post by: keithnic on 13 May 2011, 15:26:49
Hi, my Omega broke down this week. Speedo went funny when you pressed the brake pedal, battery light came on and then eventually engine just died.  Breakdown bloke reckoned alternator, seemed to me that the battery was running out of charge.  Its only about a year old.
I don't have an ammeter so can't do the OOF guide for checking electricals.  Unless anyone disagrees I was going to get a new alternator.  Any idea what model number it is or where I can locate on it.  Good places to buy one?
Is it easy to replace yourself?  I didn't see a guide for this, but do have a Haynes book so hopefully in there. Thanks in advance for any replies.

Worth spending £5-10 on a cheap multimeter TBH.
Could save you a whole bunch of cash now or in the future.

or pop it down to a local good battery outlet, they should be able to do a thorough check of the batt and alternator!  :y
