Above the radio/cd/cassette and climate controls on a facelift there is a black strip with the temp display and climate control settings.
Above that black strip is part of the wooden surround that is about 1/2" wide ... what? is behind that wooden strip?
I need to fix something there with 2 x smallish screws and dont want to go thru any wires or anything

Been a while since I've had a facelift one out, but dont recall anything there. Think climate wires exit the back of the climate unit.
Problem is, its a thin, brittle plastic, so self tapping screws will probably end in tears. Drill, nut and bolt could work, but you would have to remove it anyway to do that.
What tat are you putting there?

as long as there very short screws you`ll be ok but be carefull as the back off the heater control goes back about a inch

cheers guys ..... tat? ..... haha satnav bracket ive had it on the window (falls off) had it on vent brackets twice (broke off) tried sticky pads and tape on the wood surround and again falls off

I use this, its very good, unless your airbag actuates, it might slip then! 8-) ::) :y

Not sure the plastic is strong enough to hold anything that heavy for long

I know in the maintenance guides someone installed a tomton by permanently fixing the bracket by the centre air vents. I'll try and find the link.

Would this not work http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1256203694 :question
Failing that could you not use a ND Brodit mount of some description. Or AA's glue a piece of glass under the dash method :y
Heres the pic hope you don't mind AA(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i143/Auto_Addict/DSCF0063.jpg)

Thinking about this, if you want to put screws there, I reckon remove the trim and nut and bolt it.
It will make the car harder to sell though - people dont like holes drilled...
