Title: Dual mass flywheel?

Hi guys,
I am just to buy an omega (2.2i, '03, manual),and collecting info, manuals, FSM, prices, advices...and just suddenly found something new:
It seems all omega B are equipped with the infamous dual mass flywheel  [smiley=huh.gif]
But the 2003 models for sure.
I read dozens of stories about these "guys", audi, skoda, renault,opel,bmw....horrible prices, frequent problems/replacing.
So I did some search, and found omega flywheel (aftermarket) prices between 700-1500 euro. Wtf! Also did not find any related topic on this forum...
So my question, how often you need to replace the flywheel (the omega I found has 200K km ~ 130K miles). I read that every 2nd clutch replace. If anyone has experience, how much cost it to replace?
And how can I check the state of the flywheel in a used omega?

There pretty bullet proof on the Omegas, particularly on the Petrols (and certainly not considered an 'issue' on the diesels either)

So there is no mandatory service period to replace the flywheel, only on demand?

If it's not broke, do not fix it.  ;) ;) ;)

Is there any way to "test" it? I guess, if shifting is smooth, no strange vibration/etc, then I can suspect it's ok?
Just worried, as it seems replacing the flywheel would almost double the price of the car :O

The only way to check it is to take the gearbox off and rotate it and check for play.

However they virtually never fail on Omegas. If you're buying an Omega there are other common faults - most fixable.

I don't know much about the 2.2 but from what I've seen on this forum you want to know/check:

When cambelt last changed
When waterpump last changed
The exhaust manifold - check it for cracks
Check the front tyres for even wear (camber often goes out as the car gets old and needs adjusting back)
Pull left or right during hard braking - front wishbones need replacement
Clonks over low speed bumps - drop links (very cheap and easy to replace)

Thats a good checklist to go through, and anything that hasnt been done or worn out, you can try reduce that from the price!  :y
