When I drive my 2.5td there is a loud knocking coming from the back. I have new shocks in it and all new bushings. There is nothing left to be replaced.
The knocking only came into the car after I put the new shocks in it.
They are a set of LIP gas tech shocks.
The rubbers on the top of the shock was way smaller than the other one but its what my dealer gave me???
Anybody know anything about the rear shocks on an omega 2.5td?
Please help cause the noise is driving me mad

Are they defo the correct shocks ? (not saloon shocks in an estate, as happened recently)
Could the oe top shock mounts be fitted instead?
Are the bottom mounts tight? 110 nm? ( presume same as saloon, as I have)
Does bouncing on the rear of the car give a clue?
-
Double check to ensure that the rear shocks bottom mounts have the locating sleeve into the reciprocal housing on the arm, rather than the bolt getting tightened up with the locating sleeve outwith its 'ole.
After a few miles, it will fret loose and give a knocking noise..... :)

They are definitely saloon shocks as i have an estate here too taken appart.
When I drive on a very sharp bumpy road i can hear it but when i jump on the back of the car and shake it anyway i cant hear it?
I tightened the bottom bolts to the correct nm.
Only thing i noticed different was the original shocks had a big flat rubber pad on the top of them.
These new shocks have a smaller rubber that has a large hole in it for lining up with the rubber coming down from the top.
I might take out the shocks again and see is there any wear on them anywhere.
Funny thing about it is the car passed the NCT on thursday and it never showed up.

If someone else drives, sit in the back, drop the seats down and feel the top mount to confirm. But it sounds like the original top mounts need re fitting....?

Yep I have done that and its only coming from the back left I think.
Was just wondering is there anything Simple I could have missed other than taking the shocks out Again haha ;D

I had something similar to this on mine prior to and after fitting new shocks.
The top mount rubbers ,on the estate at least , are in two parts with one having a moulded protrusion that sleeves the bolt from the body metal where it passes throught the hole in the body.
Mine looked ok but actually had a split on one that caused the shock shaft to strike the metal of the body when being compressed.
Due to the angle of installation on the estate this would be more likely on the estate than the saloon but it's worth a look.
Good luck.

Ye mine had the same split rubbers on the top.
Might be the problem.
Think i will just have to take the shocks out for inspection :(

Still Cannot find the knocking in the car and the car passed the test and everything. The knock is so loud on the road but doesnt make a sound on a vibration plate. Sounds very loud in the boot but just cannot find it :(
-
just had same thing on my dads mondaeo, asked garage to remove shock and found the spring was broke at bottom ,i could not see it when it was in the car
-
Presume it's in time with suspension movement and bumps? Not wheels revolution?
-
Might be a silly thing to check, but I had a knock from the back of mine, the strap had come undone on the spare wheel.
-
if soimeone has fitted new donut bushes and not fitted the tophats, the subframe will knock under certain conditions, also if the donuts are worn? tried them???
-
I had to put in all new bushings in the back and two new shocks. There was no noise with all the old worn gear. as soon as i changed everythin the noise came into the car.
Oh believe me the spare wheel is not my problem haha :y

Ok so what parts where fitted exactly?
-
Checked the boot for a tidy blonde all bound and gagged? ;D

Yup Couldnt find one in there. You got my hopes up haha.
I changed two shocks. The little tie rods were changed and the big bushings on the whole axle. They are about 80mm round

Are the bolts tight on rear donut bushes?
