Title: New fault codes
Post by: venom on 12 May 2011, 12:38:24
The wife came home to the management light came on, so have done the clip test and 4 codes came up.

1st 12 which I can't find

2nd 16 knock signal circuit 1

3rd 19 incorrect rpm signal

4th 135 telltale checklight voltage low

Does anyone think they are all separate faults or all connected  >:(

12 is start of codes - so ignore.
135 just relates to the EML - its working so ignore.

16 - Knock sensor - check the wiring to this, often get chaffed in the aux belt - if so chop out and fix the wire.  Prob this thats put the EML on.

19 crank sensor - doesnt put the eml on, but does cause breakdowns, replace with a new genuine crank sensor asap.

19 is a sign of impending crank sensor failure (poor signal).

16 is the drives side knock sensor.

For former, consider a new crank sensor in the not to distant future.

For the latter, has there been any work carried out recently, cam belt or alternator change etc?

Cheers lads, I'll have to pull out the crank sensor to see if it's a metal or plastic one.
I changed the cam cover gaskets a few weeks ago so will have a look at it  :y :y

Easy (apparently!) to trap the wire when doing cam cover gaskets - seen that a few times now

Waiting for a new crank sensor, but have checked the wire on the knock sensor & all seems OK & no pinking so could it be showing up as the crank sensors playing up  :question

I'd have said unlikely, but is possible I guess.

Wait and see  :y

Fix the crank sensor first mate as this can throw up all sorts of odd codes as well as the 19  ;)

 :) :) :) Fitted a new crank sensor & the only codes coming up now is 12 & 135, so the knock sensor is fine  :y :y :y :y
