Hi I have just done the paperclip test on my car and the results are:- 12, 18 (there was a break 4-4), 19 (same thing break 4-5), 73,19 and 12.
Any help please? Thanks

Don't understand what you mean by a "break 4-4" and "break 4-5" :(
19 is usually a crank sensor issue .. but could be historic .... do you actually have the MIL light on at the moment ??
There is a page for decoding the sequences in the how to .. :)

You will also get a 19 if the engine isn't running.

Not normally... 31 if engine isn't running normally, 19 means the Crank Sensor is probably on it's way out ;)

When I owned one of these prehistoric cars, I got a 19 with engine off and didn't get it with engine running, so mine must have been a 'special'. ;D

After seeing the code numbers I did not know that there were 3 digit codes, the revised codes are as follows, 12,144,145,73,19 and 12. The engine was off during the test..
-
144-Immobiliser No Signal
145-Immobiliser Wrong Signal
73 -Mass Air Flow Sensor Voltage Low
19 -Incorrect RPM Signal (usually crank sensor)
-
Ok thank you any ideas on how to if needed to rectify the problems?
-
is there anything wrong with your car ? i.e poor starting etc
if not the codes might be old stored codes, a decent code reader should be able to clear them, then see if any turn back up again, then start your diagnosis from there ;)

but be prepared to replace your crank sensor. ;)
-
The engine light comes on at times, and sometimes cuts out when hot. The car has not been used for a while.

Sounds like classic Crank Sensor to me... I'd advise you to at least get a spare if you haven't got time to fit it as it may well give up completely at the most inconvenient time ::) ::) Like it did to one of the Admins in France :-X :-X

Ok thanks

Should add, in case you don't know, that genuine Vx Part is recommended and an alternative route for the wire as per the guide :y

19 is a faulty crank sensor. It needs changing. The MAF is likely to be an erroneous one due to the fault, so ignore that, as well as the immobiliser ones that are historic.

Only if cranksensor is knackered...
