Title: Motip spray paint problem
Post by: kcl on 30 May 2011, 08:08:25
I had some corrosion on sill and rear door. Sandblasted the spots, put some plasticpadding on and sprayed with Motip 55454 which was supposed to match my car Z489. Guess what? It did not. The new tone is somewhat darker in tone. Does anyone know if some other Motip code would be closer?

not sure another color will match as the sun fades the old paint and you need a mixture prepared by some prof.. :-/

That's true that sun fades paints but should not fade champagne color that much  :-/

Ok, thanks for the info. I just thought that where have I (or Motip) gone wrong but you've got a fair point. Maybe I will just live with a slighlty darker sill cover, however it does look better even if darker compared to the scratched original colour...

I've only ever found the Vauxhall paint to match closely. Bit of a pain seeing as it costs a fortune. Also found the new stuff isn't as resilient as the old stuff unless you bake it. Bring back cellulose ...

One of the problems with metallic paints is the application. You can have four different people spray one panel each on the side of a car using the same gun immediatly after each other and end up with four different colour finishes because of the way the paint is laid on.

Pearls/Mica's are like that, standard Metallic paint should be piece of cake to spray, assuming the paint is right.  :y

Thanks for the replies. I think my color is mica, Z489. Maybe I'll just live with it, at least the result is now rust free  :y
