Title: Ride Height
Post by: John-R on 30 May 2011, 20:54:31
Hi All.
Just wondering if anyone can give advice on the correct ride height for my 2003 saloon 2.6.

We went for a trip today with 5 in the car - 3 teens in the back and I noticed that when going over those horrible speed bumps - the square ones that can be straddled not the full width ones - the car scraped on the hump.

I wouldn't consider the weight in the back to be excessive but still worrying to hear the scrape. :o :-?

Thanks
John

I would say  - car unloaded - should not be less than
675mm from ground to wheel arch through centre of wheel.

Have recently been measuring quite a few - but these were F/L Elites with self levelling &  F/L MV6's

Facelift MV6 & 2.2 sport & rarely a few f/L elites have LSC (Lowered Sports Chassis) which should be 660mm

May be better to enquire on here with one or two owners who have exactly the same model as you .

Hope this helps :y :y

It'll be either shocks or springs, odds on springs, they snap the smaller coils off top and bottom. Easier to inspect with wheel off, but even then pay very close attention to the ends.

Did the same last night and mine measure 660mm as well.
I've also checked the springs and they're fine. N/S was replaced 2months back.
I notice the back does sag when loaded and even more when I hitch up the caravan. Anyone tried spring assisters? Or any other options?
Thanks

Always replace springs in pairs!!!!!!! What spring was fitted? Gm? Kyb?

There is an air assisted kit available for cars with non standard self leveling. Or spring assisters as you say.

.. I know you commented on how much lower mine looked than yours Chris at the last Oxford meet at Kassam. It's definitely come up an inch or two now with the new shocks on it (think I preferred it slighlty lower tbh  :-[ ) - still not as high as yours though I don't think....

Mine was the odd one out of the 5(?) cars present. LA springs where fitted, and are now known to ride higher by,what, 20mill? Or so? They are firmer.

Still have them if anyone wants then...   :-/

after a few years of hols in Europe with a trailer tent I put assister springs in. Even after that with 4 people, boot full and a roof rack it still had the tow bar grounding. At least it protected the petrol tank!
the tow bar that is.

I assume the "pigtail" is the narow tight coil at the top of the spring . . .that's what happened to mine. Actually found it sitting on the mounting at the bottom of the spring when I took the wheel off.
