Title: Worn Tyre
Post by: egcc on 06 June 2011, 12:16:33
Hi all I noticed only one of the front o/s drivers side tyres is worn on the inner only about 2 inches, the other n/s tyre is fine.
Is this a tracking or wheel alignment problem?
I have never had one wear before normally both front, any ideas?

thanks in advance.

Could be, may also be due to worn suspension components or bushes.

Thanks will get it checked due for its MOT so hopefully the problem will be found.

This is frequently a problem with too much camber - the wheel leaning in too much on that side.  As Brikhead says, this is probably caused by faulty or worn suspension components.

The trouble is that most wheel alignment places don't check camber and may even try to tell you it can't be adjusted, which it can on Omegas.  So they will charge you for playing with the alignment but still leave the problem unsolved.

Omegas need a full 3D geometry check form somewhere like Black Boots / Wheels in Motion (http://www.blackboots.co.uk/tyre-fitting-centres.php).  They aren't expensive either - discount for OOF members if you ask.

Shoulder wear is ALWAYS camber.

Its the reason for excessive camber that needs to be investigated. Check the bushes, if nothing wrong with those, get a proper full geometry check down (don't bother with tracking or 4 wheel alignment, and always ignore any impressive suggestions about laser alignment).

I've booked my Omega into Nigel Langs in Bolton next Saturday to have the camber and tracking done. Estimated cost £75.00, discounted price for OOF members
