Hi guys.
I'm a newbie member to the site, for posting, but not for seeking out answers. Help is now needed.
Two weeks ago parked car up as norm for the night , and then she decided not to start the following morning. 12hrs later she fired up. Few days later the same happened, but this time decided not start at all. Seeked out the paperclip test from here, got readings for, throttle petentiometer, crank sensor & Intake air temp sensor. Had car recovered to garage for new crank sensor to be fitted. Four days later, car still in garage, new crank sensor fitted, but still not starting. She sparks but wont fire up. Been told all sensors have been checked and all ok. Fuel System all ok, battery ok. Garage now telling me Its a New ECU needed, and it will need to be programmed at vauxhall etc Am I being taking for a ride here?
Which ECU would it be and are these expensive?
Scrap or spend, is this the end of her.
Any advice would be appreciated.

seconded- my bet is that they havent done crank sensor and/or not a gm sensor, as rob said do paper clip again and dont be surprised when crank sensor appears :o

A 4 pot should run without a cranksensor, or without a cam sensor, (but obviously needs one of them working ;D)

.............and the diagnosis/fix was?????????????????
Engine start had been sprayed down the Air intake pipe, and a sensor was masted up.
Always a good idea to tell the mechanic what activity has gone on under the bonnet, I think. :)
Within 24hrs of car returning starting motor packed up. I can only assume this is due to engine being turnt over many times with a crank sensor gone. If I'm right, anyone reading, take note.
