I prefer the older soft 'round' spoked Elite wheels, 225/55/16 on my TD Estate to the flat spoked, 235/45/17's on my 'new' F/L Elite saloon, and was thinking of swapping them over. Does this swap pose any problems either way? Certainly the ride on the lower profile tyres is harder, but the handling is slightly better when in a hurry.
I'm sure there has been discussion on here about the effect of different wheel sizes, but old age prevents me remembering the different issues involved. :-/

your speedo will be slightly out, as will the MID
the speedo you will have to live with, the MID can be configured to any omega standard tyre size.
-
Wouldn't bother if it was me, seems like hassle for not much gain, and I think the newer Elite wheels suit the car perfectly

I did say 'I prefer', and accept that it is a subjective issue, also not much hassle.:y

Chris
They are a direct swap and although there will be little error it's within acceptability.
I went the other way from 16 to 17 and those were the tyre sizes involved .
Have a look here and use the tyre comparison calculator.

Cheers Don, I'll look at that. I was also wondering if there was a different offset between a F/L 3.2 and the MFL TD. :-/
-
Nope , offsets (ET) are all same or similar between pre, MFL and FL .
The term offset applies to the wheel not the car and is used to determine the distance the mating face of the wheel is from the verticle centre line through the wheel with 0 being dead centre .
The figure is shown as a - ( minus ) and it increases as the mating face goes further to the outside of the wheel so a wheel with an ET of -20 will protrude 15mm further out than a wheel of say -45 .

You'll be fine ,and like you I do like the soft stars . :y

Being a narrower tyre, I was concerned that they might try to use that as a get-out if an incident happened, thats all :y

I'd need them for the TD which is where the Soft Stars(?) are!
-
Yeah, I love the big flats, just wish they has a lower offset :D
Iiirc the rolling diameter is similar between a 225/55/16 and a 225/45/17 (Although I think 235 may be stock on the 17?)
:y

If you do swap you are obliged to inform your insurance as it is a change from the vehicles original specs and is therfore a modification. Not worth having a bump then finding out you had no insurance........ :y
