Hi guys,
I have tried to remove the locking wheel nut on my elite with the key that comes with it and i have managed to totally destroy the wheel nut so that it cannot be undone with the key no matter how I try, its total ruined. How do I get it off the car now as once I get it off I will replace it with a regular wheel stud.
Any thoughts welcome please
Thanks

Hi mate,
You could try and drill the top of the bolt off or try left handed drills and see if once you have a bite on it it comes out or drill a hole in the top and tap a ratchet bar in and get some one behind the wheel tapping each side with there feet. I know its gonna be hard mate as i have only ever had to get one off and that was a nightmare. Not sure but if you could get a socket on there you mite be able to get a irwin socket remover on there maybe.
Good luck mate hope the advie is of use.

Hiya fella, you could try something like the link below. Not sure of the quality as per reviews but have used similar for removing rounded off sump plugs etc. Good luck.

Stop by a tyre garage, I had the same problem although they were rounded off when I got the car.
Told the garage the problem and they managed to get the bolt out for me. Cost £5!
Problem Solved! :y

Blackviper is about right - most decent tyre shops have the gear to do the job.
Most lock nuts are rounded off or knackered because when they are tighteened they are done far too tight and the socket and bar is not kept at a dead on 90 degrees to the nut. I only nip mine and have never had any problems with them coming loose - the rest are torqued though.

my local place use an undersized impact socket and hammer it on with a lump hammer.

Hi mate,
had this problem when i bought mine as there was no locking wheel nut key with the car.
Mine were shielded locking nuts (had a spinning collar on them)
depending on which ones yours are:
shielded: get a chizel and remove shielding...however you can.
Without shielding (or after removing it):
Find a 16 or 17 or 18mm socket (which ever seems like its the closest fit)
Then basically knock the socket onto the locking nut with a lump hammer.
It will knock on pretty tight, definitely enough to then be able to undo it with a bar.
May find it useful to use a small extension to tap it on.
Also, to remove then, once loosened enough to do by hand, just knock socket sideways a bit and it will pop off.
Any good quality socket will be stronger than the nut and therefore wont split. But cheaper ones will.
Draper expert ones i used were more than fine. Didnt even leave a scratch on the socket.

I've been using a Draper Expert 1/2" socket set for the last 16 years, it's only just now beginning to show signs of 'wear'...

As for locking wheel nuts, standard Vx. ones don't usually stand a chance against a decent 19 m.m multipoint socket, as pictured.

oh yeah,
Thats the one thing i forgot.
A multipoint socket is best.
Lots of impact sockets have only 5-6 points...or whatever it is.
Multi fits better

Dynomec in Castleford have a system that's guaranteed to get the wheel off damage free -worked for me

Thanks guys, I will give the local garage a go. I am sure they have seen it before and maybe they can help. If not I will give you ideas a go.
Thanks
