Title: enough is enough - alarm problem
Post by: hoj on 25 June 2011, 09:35:00
Think i have read "somewhere" on here about the problems with alarm/power sounder but cant find any threads so will ask again.
4.20 in the bloody A.M. this morning the alarm with the horn sounding goes off AGAIN.
Its been doing it for a few weeks now may leave it 5 mins or 5 hours and off it goes.
I have tried pressing the interior "off" switch but no joy still goes off so the questions are:-

Why does it keep going off (what possible reason)?
Can i dissconnect it and HOW?

The Power Sounder has its own Batteries in it, so if for instance your main battery goes flat and someone tries to break in the alarm will still go off.
The Batteries in your Power Sounder sound asthough they have/are wearing down.
There have been a couple of cases on the forum where members cars have almost set on fire as the acid has dripped onto the wiring :o Jimbob can tell you first hand..

If I were you I would not buy a secondhand Power Sounder for obvious reasons. New from Vx they are around £60.

The other alternative is to unplug it, which is under the scuttle panel on the drivers side. It is a black box looking thing with a connector on the side of it. There is also a horn under there next it, which will still work if someone tries to break into the car as long as your main battery is charged.

Hope that helps :y

I had exactly the same problem with random activations.

The advice from OOF was to locate the bonnet sensor and see if it needed to be bent up straight to create a good contact with the bonnet.
Mine was straight, but the spring felt weak. I disconnected the wire from the bonnet sensor and the alarm has not gone off again.
The car is protected by the alarm everywhere but under the bonnet. I intend to glue a strong piece of rubber over the under bonnet hole that the top of the sensor rests in and reconnect in the future, but in the meantime, my neighbours and I sleep soundly.

I hope this simple remedy works for you too.

Since you said "with the horn sounding", and you tried pressing the "runnning dude" button to disarm the cabin motion sensor, the bonnet sensor is likely culprit. The power sounder has its own awful piercing high-pitched sound.
You can put some sort of padding on the bonnet above the sensor, or bend the bracket up a bit.
You can test the interior motion sensor by leaving a window open, locking the car and arming the alarm, then stick your arm inside and wave it around, and also try it  with the sensor-off button pressed first.
I wonder what you do if the motion sensor turns out to be the culprit - never could find a tutorial or advice on that, but someone here must have done it.

think i may have found whats happening the interior light flickers on and off and sometimes comes on while driving.
Tried all the doors and i think the driver door switch has packed up - well the light isnt going off when i press the switch with my finger so will change that and see what (if anything) happens.
Will also have a look at the bonnet sensor as well thanks guys

i gave up on fooking around with my alarm had a bloody mind of it own

tried new bonnet switch changed all door switches , brort a second hand power sounder then a brand new one.

final solution was chuck power sounder in bin and take a pair of wire cutters to the alarm horn wire as well

silence is bliss ;D :y
