Hi,
Whats the most likely cause of a 2.2 petrol cutting our randomly i.e. after 1 mile or 20+ miles? On my v6 I would guess crank sensor but thought these were reliable on the 2.2 engine.

Cutting out whilst idling, or while on the go?

On the go!

Its broken :y
EDIT - Does it run rough or just cut out randomly :question

In that case crank sensor is a distinct possibility, but I think with it being a Desmond I'd want a code-read before purchasing any parts, assuming that can be done cheapish via a local member with the necessary kit.
The weakness in all the variants of Omega crank sensor seems to be the cable (insulation), which doesn't seem to get quite so hot in the standard routing on the 4-pots as on the V6s, but still gets toasty enough to turn to dust given enough time.

Sharp as ever Dave ;D Just cuts out :o , sometimes restarts straight away sometimes a while later.
It's a mates car BTW

Would want codes reading really Jon, Cam sensor is normally the one that goes but your symptoms aren't pointing towards that :-/

For info to finish off the post.
My Omega 2.2 Auto was cutting out, ....more like losing power coming up to roundabouts and generally randomly losing power.
Turns out the problem was not with the car, it was me !!
If you drive the Automatic, and use Left Foot braking ... (or even lean your foot ever so slightly on the brake pedal) you can cause the car to lose power, as it cuts drive power when you apply the brake, which is a design safety feature.
You are supposed to drive it with one foot only, and therefor be unable to press both accelarator and brake at the same time.
However if you drive like i was doing, then you will be causing the problem yourself.
I now drive the Auto with one leg nailed to the floor.
It works ...Try It ...lol
Hope this helps someone
