Title: Aircon regassed at Kwik fit
Post by: so comfortably numb on 27 June 2011, 21:43:05
Has it done sunday.  When he released the hoses the lttle ball valve got stuck and whilst the guy went to fetch a little screw driver to dislodge it, it was hissing out gas.  Now; it is colder but I dont think as cold as what it should be.  Any advice? Or if I take it back are thay just guna fob me off

The 'hissing gas' was cooling medium escaping.  Should be in region of 900 to 950 grammes of liquid gas (from memory) so you now have less than that, assuming the engine ear technician mechanic fitter operative read the manual before/after operating the kit and got the weight right in the first place....   :D

Come on..... we ARE talking 'thick shite' here.... read?? the manual??? a 'thick shite' fitter????..... ::) ::)

That would be a first.... they can't read, can they?? ;)

Genuine neanderthal knuckle draggers... I know from bitter experience..... >:( >:( >:(

Complain to them. They know their staff don't know their @rse from their elbow and, in my experience (exactly the same, took it in for a re-gas. Cooler or your money back) they are quick to offer a full refund if you complain.

Then take it to someone who knows what they are doing. :y

After having a re-gas it should be icy cold when set to low.  If not, take it back.  Alternatively take it to someone who knows what the hell they are doing.  If the 'operative' didn't have the presence of mind to re-attach the hose while he hunted for a screwdriver then I wouldn't bother taking it back there again if I were you.  They could cause more damage quite easily.

Yep. Attach the hoses, press the button on the machine. That's about the level of understanding these guys have. If the machine does the job OK, you're lucky. If there are any snags that require a little knowledge to resolve, not a hope. :(

Always use an ac specialist IMO.

How many posts do we see on here where they missed the leak, didn't check for a leak, didn't fill it correctly bla bla.

Get refund, seek specialist.  :y

Thing is, I know they're shite from previous experience too, but I work away all week and wanted it done quick.  I'll take it back Saturday and get them to check it again.  It's supposed to hold 950g's but at at 545g's (I was watching the machine - it was struggling to get past that figure) he was just kinda stareing at it then stopped it.  When he switched it off it displayed the amount of gas and oil recovered and it was zero, although there was gas still in there beforehand. I knew I shouldn't have taken it there!

had the same problem today. slightly different out come thou.

tested with nitrogen, added dye, gassed up. on removing the fitting the valve stuck. reconnected , put the gas back in the cylinder and changed the sticky valve. measured up again and regassed.
sorted for £10 more than those with the automachines.

I getting worried  :o. I've booked mine in for Friday. How did you manage to watch them? I thought they didn't allow customers in the bay. I will want to watch what they are doing. I'll let you know how I get on.

Really I just wouldn't bother. Even if you have to pay an extra £20 for a specialist or proper garage or even Vauxhall.  I wish I had.  They are notoriously shite!!!!!!

Well, I've just had mine done this morning. It had no gas due to a leak which they fixed. It was an anxious wait whilst the machine did its thing. When they told me there was a problem I thought " oh, here we go, the bill's going to mount". But I just paid the quoted £49.
The car is nice and cool now. I can drive with the windows shut now.

I had the MV6 done at ShitFit in the spring when we had that hot spell. Purely because they were the cheapest, and I know I have a (slow) leak ::). Which they didn't spot, idiots. So probably a poor vac test by the muppets.

But, its almost next door to work, and I know it will need redoing next spring due to the faulty valve (that I really should change ::)), so I looked at it as a quick £49 bodge to get the AC running

;D if they are going to be useless idiots it's only fair to treat them as such IMO.  ;)
