Title: Cooling fans
Post by: tomoco on 04 July 2011, 20:49:31
Had my air con regassed last week. Superb job by a local firm, came to me at home as well.
Anyway, they noticed that one of my fans at the front of the radiator (the right hand one)was difficult to turn by hand. The left one was fine and kicks in when the air con is on (nice and cold now).

Should the right hand fan turn easily? it seems to be jammed on something. What is it there for?

Thanks in advance

Mark :y

Two fronts run when A/C is operating, both should be able to "freewheel"

Thanks for the quick reply Rob.. Are they easy to get off or has the rad got to come out :(.  Think one is just jammed by something as it turns for about an inch then stops (both directions)

Just a word of warning Mark (you probably know anyway) but the cooling fans can cut in at anytime, even with ignition off, so ensure you either disconnect the battery (pref) or ensure the engine is stone cold before prodding around.  :y

IIRC they`re interlocked in the centre and each held in place via a plastic peg/pin pushed through a grommet

Two front fans will only run when A/C is engaged

Very good advice Thank you :y

Is it possible to unplug the jammed fan so i dont overload the motor. Cant get time to fix it till the weekend?

Aye, just worried about the poor guy sticking his hand behind the rad to get to clips etc and ending up typing with his toes in the future!  ;D
