Post by: Adies08 on 03 July 2011, 20:00:39
Hi I've just noticed that i have a small oil leak dripping off the sump plug. Anybody any idea where it could be coming from or are in the Ipswich area can help me trace it  :)

If no other areas of leak showing, you can renew the plug washer separately

As that is the lowest area of the engine, it could be coming from anywhere.

If no clear trace of oil from higher up then check the sump bolt.

Sump plug itself (replace o-ring/washer (depending on age))

Sump gasket (replace)

Cam cover gaskets (replace)

Oil cooler pipes (tighten)

Oil filter (investigate)

If you don't manage to track it down I'll happily have a look in a few weeks time when I'm (hopefully) back to full health ;) I couldn't even get under the car at the moment though :(

Not sure about the 2.5 but I have been told that my sump is corroded and porous, as a result I have a slight Oil leak, confirmed by the drive, but must be tiny :)
Anyway I have bought a replacement sump for fitting when next oil change is due... :y
