what are the symptoms of a faulty steering idler???
-
Woolly steering, possibly tramlining, uneven tyre wear and play, particularly in the N/S wheel when jacked up and rocked at the 3/9 o'clock positions ;) (where you can also see the idler moving up and down ;))
-
my osf wheel is wobbling all over the place ive just had the car jacked up and the wheel moves up down side to side as if the wheel bearing has gone but i know that this is ok as ive changed it
i dont want to work on the car on the side jack so ive left it for now hence asking for further info
-
i also know the wishbones are shot but dint think they would cause this problem
-
That sounds seriously wrong. Not wishing to ask the stupid question but... Are you sure the W/B is done properly and also that the wheel bolts are tight?
Wishbones would have to be seriously shot, along with a few other things wrong for it to move freely :o :o

Get your shapely assistant (clad in a smooth bodystocking in a colour of your choice) to apply the footbrake whilst you redoo the 3/9 and 6/12 rocking test for free play.
If free play is gone with footbrake applied then its the wheel bearing thats fubar, irrespective of when it was changed. ;)

i will have to have a look in the morning now as its dark and car is now parked on grass so cannot jack up
the wheel bearing was done by my self and was tightened to 300nm

Doesn't mean it's not shot again ;) ;)
As H21 says, check with the footbrake applied ;)

im really hoping this is the wishbones that are shot they have been gone for a long time just not had the time to change them

thanks for the super fast replies guys

Just to update the wheel bearing was fine it was the trackrod end and the ball joint (wishbone) that was causing the problem :y :y
