Title: 2.2 cam cover gasket
Post by: chrisr on 05 July 2011, 19:38:25
Having renewed the pads and front discs on my 2.2 with the help of OOF I decided to tackle the cam cover gasket. I followed the OOF  guide and everything went well (nothing broke and the car started afterwards!) Unfortunately my torque wrench doesn't go down to 8nm so I torqued up by feel. Guess what - leaking gasket! My question is, now I have bought the right torque wrench do I have to buy a new gasket or will the week old one be ok if I take everything apart again and re-use, torqued up to 8nm?

Take some photographic evidence of the leakage if poss, then send it back for a refund (NOT replacement).

Then get yourself down to your nearest Vauxhall dealership, the only places that sell real genuine camcover gaskets.  (Or PM the marvellous andyc on here who works at such a place and gives good deals by mail to OOFers).

Then use your new torque wrench.   :y

Nope..... they say they do, but they don't.

Pattern gaskets never last, get one from a Vx Dealer  :y
