Title: Graphical Information Display
Post by: ajr3773 on 09 July 2011, 19:34:06
Anybody on the forum know the part number for the Siemens Graphical Information Display (GDI) that goes with the NCDC 20xx head units and will a second hand replacement plug and play or does it need to be paired.

Seen a few on ebay but i suspect these are MID's and not GID's

Mine has missing pixels and can't seem to find anyone that does repairs so looking for a new one.

Nope. Needs to be a "de-paired" GID then needs pairing with your HU via TechII so you`ll need your car pass. Try a PM to VXL V6 (Andy) he may be able to assist

Credit card size with details of the codes relevant to the car, ie. radio, immobiliser/key. Varies in price from VX between £20-50

You don't by any chance have one of these GID's do you?
Are they readily available or hard to come by.

Got a GID here but will need to be de-paired and i'm not sure I can remember which head unit it was originally paired with!  ::)

There's one on ebay:-

but again it will be paired.

Worth keeping an eye out in the parts for sale section on here.  :y

So even if i bought this one from ebay it has to be de-paired first prior to shipping?

Yep, for which the car pass will be required. You will also need to depair yours from the head unit then get this one paired.

Alternatively you could buy one with a good screen and dismantle it to remove the LCD and swap that over though i've never actually looked how easy that would be to do.

Anyone who has a proper Tec II can do it, the key is finding someone who knows how to use it so try and avoid the average dealers and PM TheBoy, Kevin Wood, Marks DTM or Hotel 21 depending on your location!  :y

You cannot depair a paired GID if you don't know the PIN that was used to pair it in the first place (if it was factory fit, this should be on the donor's carpass)

Then you need the PIN used to pair your GID (if factory fit, should be on your carpass) to depair your faulty GID. Then swap the GIDs over, and pair them back together.

IME, dealers and garages are unable to deal with this concept, and generally bugger things up.

Known Tech2's on the forum, and people who know how to use them are at http://theboy.omegaowners.com
