Want to give the coolant system a good cleanout. So far have drained the system a couple of times and run the car. The coolant is now pretty much just water - and fairly clean.
I've read about using some low suds detergent - could anyone suggest an exact sort to use as I have visions of never ending suds from the header tank!
In anticipation - Rob

Thanks - looks ideal, but I was hoping that there was something that I could pop out @ lunchtime and buy in Tesco.
If not then I'll send off for this stuff.

"Bold" or any other "low suds" detergent can be used

So that's a bottle of Bold in the header tank then.
Is all Bold low suds, or is there a specific low suds Bold that I should look out for?
How long would you leave it in there before flushing that out. I only do a very small mileage so was thinking of a week or so?
Thanks

Use the liquid gel type rather than powder - very popular with housewives these days, so Im told :D. It just needs to be for automatic washing machines rather than handwash type. Which I would guess almost all of them are these days.
I wouldnt put the contents of the whole bottle in there personally, I could be wrong but it seems like too much to me.
I used the stuff for the final flushes after having to change the oil cooler, and a bottle did several flushes.
I would flush it after a couple of hours running.

Am I right in thinking that Bold, as used in a washing machine is a dual type that contains a fabric softener too?
If that is right then it will coat the internals and play havoc as it did when I tried it in my central heating system instead of using the right stuff.
best way I have found is to use an eggcup full of the liquid general purpose detergent used in Karcher pressure washers or I have also used the diluted fluid used in a Vax carpet shampooer with brill results, and then a good flush through with plain water.
Both are low foaming anyway. :y

After totally confusing myself I have ordered the Forte stuff - just have to wait a few days for it to arrive :y
I've done two more flushes today and things are looking a lot better. However, by opening the header tank lid and draining the rad via the drain plug I can only get out about 4 litres out - so any ideas on getting an other litre out would be welcome. Once I've finished flushing and have clean water I can then fillup with 5L of red coolant and then top up with water.
Hope that all makes sense.
Thanks

bit late with this reply prehaps but . . 2 dishwasher tablets disolved in water first - then added.
Leave in for a day or two.
Works a treat especially if any oily deposits to disperse.
several clean water flush outs after. Sorted , used this myself many times 8-) 8-)
Forte is the stuff though. But Around 40 quid I think. :( :(

£16.50 from fleabay, but the dishwasher tablet option seems sensible also - thanks for that.
