Title: Gear shifting probs
Post by: AetO on 28 January 2011, 15:33:31
Have another tiny problem with our beloved Omega. Gear shifting is sometimes a bit hard. Tried changing the oil, no change.

I (female driver ;) ) have less problems when driving smoothly, than husband. Smooth isn't quite his thing.

Any ideas?

Having problems/difficulty engaging gears
#1---Clutch fault
#2---Worn synchroniser units
Or the gear linkage needs adjusting :y

Mine is a manual too and seems to have a problem with the Gear Linkage but is currently only affecting 5th and Reverse (can't get either gear) as 5th actually gives me 3rd and Reverse gives me 4th. Symptoms sound different so Clutch Release Bearing may be shot???

Have tried to ignore this problem for a while, but it's now worsened sligthly. At low speed or standing still, the car will still drive when the clutch is fully down, both reverse (uphill!) and in 1st.

Have tried bleeding the clutch, had no effect. Didn't seem to have much air in the system at all.

Since this is a new symptom, does clutch release bearing being shot still sound as a likely explanation?
