Hi guys,
I've recently bought a 2.0 16v Omega estate with LPG. When I bought the car it had the engine management light on and was very gutless. I did the paper clip test for the fault codes and it brought up cam sensor and lambda. I have replaced these and now have no engine management light and the car is running much better. However the power is still very flat, its responsive at light throttle but put your foot down and it really needs winding up. The best mpg i've had on gas so far is 23mpg and only a touch higher on petrol. I know its a big car and is never gonna be quick but feels like there is a big hole in the powerband.
On a seperate note it also has an issue running on petrol, it will run fine at light throttle but it very hesitant at full throttle feels like fuel starvation. I have replaced the fuel filter incase it was a blockage.
Any help appreciated!

Big car small engine.
Bare in mind the car weighs around 1.7ton :y
-
what about plugs an filter? worth a check.
-
Full service, check cambelt and clean breathers. Then get it running properly on petrol, ignoring LPG for now, then start trying the LPG. Fairly sure a bit of tlc will sort it all :y
-
I've done an oil change and air filter. It had new plug leads just before I got it. Will chuck a new set of plugs at it. I know its a big car small engine, but my brother in laws 1.5dci Kangoo van can out accelerate it!
If you accelerate gradually it seems to pick up better than if you just nail the throttle. If you just pin the throttle it seems to bog down.

Faulty Dis Pack? I had this problem a couple of years ago on our 2.0L estate, changed the cam sensor and the Dis pack, runs fine now, in fact the 2.0L felt more sprightly that the 2.2L........before I changed the coil pack....... :y

Change cam belt, tensioner etc... mine was the same till I found out tensioner not doing it's work - belt sliped for one tooth, had no power either just like you. Just pure luck only one tooth sliped

Dude ! I've been beaten off the mark by the smallest of cars....soon catch them up though.
Power to weight ratio is incredibly important.

Cheers for the advice. Its not just slow off the mark, its just dog slow all the time!
Filled up again today, 46litres of lpg only managed 210miles. I know you suggest sorting it running on petrol but I do around 250 miles a week and work pay for the fuel. If I was paying £1.30odd a litre and getting 20ish mpg I would be shot!
Think i'll try swapping the plugs and dispack as you can hear it missing ever so slightly at times, if that doesnt work cts and if still no joy cam timing.

Be prepared to be shot........
23 on lpg, about right, expect around 26 to 27 on petrol with a mixture of town and main road running, maybe early 30's on a steady motorway run, not that swmbo ever manages that..... ::) ::)

That is exactly what I get from mine, it only gets better when I don't use it. :-/

dont want to direct you towards for this and that, but I'm sure your engine suffering some issues.. if the area you live is close to oof mobile mechanics or your route is not that far, let them have a look at your car and test drive it.. 2 litre engine with manual must not be that slow.. :-/

where are you based, it may be handy to see the live data while being driven, may help pinpoint the problem. There may be a member close by who can help.

I'm in Peterborough. Maybe i'm just expecting too much from it, if 23mpg is the best I can expect then thats just plain crap! I had an ST200 mondeo that used to get driven pretty hard and could get anywhere between 26-30mpg. The car seemed to be pulling better today for some reason?!
-
Maybe it had run for a while without a working lambda, and this caused the cat to soot up.
Each time you take it for a good high-revs run it may get better. :)
Bit speculative but I like to be optimistic. :y

youll be doing very well to acheive that round town....on a run, yes

A 2.0 ltr 16v engine in a car weighing just under 2 tonnes is never going to break any acceleration records or economy records... the engine will be working quite hard all the time IMO

Used to do mid 20's round town and up to 30 on a run. Most of my driving is A and B roads, 40-50 miles a day.

I made calculation into mpg and result....30 mpg on long run (absolutely the best of) and 16 mpg when driving only to shop - doctor - home, short distances (the worst of)

Check the cam timing first, mine was slow as snail and very poor in start. Had to press pedal to half only to start moving from still. Before it's too late. Now it runs perfectly, but of you you want anything more out of it, must be over 3500 rpm - it's a midget under the hood :'(
