Hi all,
Looking for some advice on how to change both front dipped xenon bulbs. The vehicle is a 2.6 CDX (Y reg, March 2001). I can change ordinary headlight bulbs on my Astra van, but the xenons on the Omega are proving a bit difficult. To be honest, I have not taken any tools to as yet, but I have spoken to a car mechanic, and Nationwide autos, and they both said that I have to have a Vauxhall garage do the replacement. In the 8 years of owning the vehicle , this is the first dipped bulbs that need replacing. I'm not complaining. If I have to have a Vauxhall garage do the job, then so be it. Otherwise, I will attempt to do it myself with the advice I can get off the forum.
Many thanks for any advice or for just reading my message.

easy enough, access isnt easy, so remove the airbox and battery.
then 3 torx screws to remove unit.
unclip and install new d2s bulbs
not cheap though £70 odd each on tradeclub, over £100 each retail
I used cheapo's from ebay, which have been fine, some people have had nothing but grief though.
the default colour is 4300k for originals, a yellowy white light
I used 6000K which is a bluish white.
if you can get 5000k they are an excellent colour, and illuminate well.
dont go above 6000 though as the illumination deteriorates.

Replacing xenon buln is nothing different to what you do when replacing normal buls.
Where can I get genuine philips xenon bulbs from?
There are hundreds of them on ebay, but i bet most of them are not genuine.
However, in my old omega i did a conversion from normal headlights to new depo lens headlight with fitted hid conversion kit and it's still bright! So maybe there is no need to spend a lot more money on genuine philips ones?

Our 2001 cdx gives a bluish white light. Does this mean it has aftermarket bulbs? They are so much better than the lights on our CD though! :-/

Ye. I was just thinking the same thing: My Y plate 2001 CDX has distinctly bluish-white. Excellent illumination. I really like em!

As above, ours are very blue when they first strike, settling down to a white that is so white it generates the blue tinge.
There is no mention of the lamps ever being replaced in the service history, so I will assume they are genuine fitment.

Hey, where can I get genuine Philips D2S bulbs from?

Just as an aside, are HID lights dangerous to work on in any way? because I was told by the parts people in the local Vauxhall dealer not to mess with the lights, as "they could blow your hand off" :-/

make sure you dont touch any live (or turned off for that matter) connections.
Ebay often have the bulbs - phillips or osram are recommended over chinese crap. or your local factors - but get a price 1st, they vary a lot :y

Despite that xenons consume less power - 35W than conventional bulbs, they need ~15000V and not just 12V. In theory it could kill you, but whether they can blow hand off? The knowledge of specialists from Vauxhall knows no bounds... what they gonna do to achieve one more customer? A? ;P

Recently there is a lot of fakes from China on eBay, though the price will still be high to make you think the item is genuine. This doesn't just apply to xenons, but everything I noticed.

As said these are High Intensity gas Discharge bulbs...you are very well advised to disconnect the battery and leave the bulbs a very good amount of time to allow any discharge held in the bulbs to release before replacing them, they can do you some serious harm if not...that said they are easy to change and you can get genuine philips ones from ebay for a fraction of the price of new ones...I have a few here that I dont need if you want some?? If so just PM me :y
