Was perfect at the Midlands Meet yesterday. Today after a few miles noticed a rattling sound coming from the engine which got gradually worse. pulled over and gave it a few gentle revs and something sounded loose. Checked oil and its to the Max. Managed to get home but it got a little worse. Sounds like its coming from the front of the engine around the pulleys but i dont know.
Very concerned and i cant drive it in its current state.

Have you checked the water pump pulley bolts, they have been known to come loose.
-
Aux belt tensioner :-/ or cambelt tensioner >:(
-
Happy to have a look for cost of fuel.
Sounds to me like a cambelt tensioner has let go.
-
Cambelt was done 6000 miles ago. Cheers for the offer james. Elite pete is trying to get to me to have a look. :y
-
OK, let us know how you get on.
Still sounds cambelt related...

Not too serious then .... a far better result than it could have been ... I'm guesing it now has, (or soon will have), a nice new water pump and timing belt kit ?? :)

Waterpump is only 5500 miles and 9 months old so i will be claiming that back under warranty.

Very poor.....what make?
-
Not sure but it was from buypartsbuy?
-
Damn - the one I've just put in was from BuyPartsBy - it was a Comline.
:(
-
which raise the question ........
why automatically replace an OK OE GM water pump for the sake of access when you do a cam belt etc ? Maybe there was a excuse for doing so when a 'real' GM pump was cheap, but now that they're not, would a used/original OE pump be better left as it is rather than replace it with a 'cheap' generic part? ::)
-
In my case, BPB told me it would be a QH pump (QCP3255) so I ordered it at what seemed like a good price.
When it turned out that my existing pump had play in the bearing I decided to take the risk and fit the Comline that arrived rather than faff around starting a dipute with BPB, returning the pump and having to strip down a second time to fit the replacement.
So I guess it serves me right if the thing shuffles off this mortal coil in a few months. Time will tell :-/
-
It was an Autovaux one IIRC
-
Sound like I did well getting a new QH waterpump off fleabay for £20 inc p&p, where somebody they bought it and never got round to fitting it, before they sold the car. :)
-
Well Dan, it could have been so much worse.
I should leave your Hi-Vis jacket at home mate, next Mig meet, it looks like its bad luck ::) :y
Glad you've got sorted out :y
