What engine has your car got?

Have you checked for fault codes?
(see the code reading link in my sig, depending on engine type)

Any lights come on on dash?  that dont normally?

if the chip is intact, then your next step would be to check for fault codes. follow the guide below and post up whatever you find. :y

If you follow the paperclip test, the engine management light should flash, count it/ writing it down usually helps. then post them up here.

Just a 31 there, so nothing to worry about.

Do you get any flashing lights on the dashboard when you turn it over and does the rev counter needle "kick"?

Try turning it over a few times with the accelerator pushed to the floor and then try again normally. This will clear it if it's flooded.

After that, we need to check the basics. Is there fuel pressure at the fuel rail and is there a spark?

Agreed. Might be worth checking the engine management fuse first though. 30A fusible link in the box above the battery terminal IIRC.

My understanding of Vauxhalls from this era is that if the immobilizer can't find the chip from the keyfob then it will flash the e.m.l.

Do Omega's not do this?

...wondered if anyone could help...

Do you hear the fuel pump priming when you first turn on the ignition?

Yes - no need to dismantle key unless eml flashing when trying to start.

As others - change crank sensor for a new genuine Vx one :y
