There are some very, very clever scammers out there. If ebay stopped the transaction, there was a good reason for it.

Definately a scam, just got a fake Paypal e-mail. No funds in my account. According to the ebay Q+A section this is the most active scam at the moment. Asking you to ship to different address from the one registered on ebay is a big NO NO.
They are not that clever, no spell checker used ::)

Wrong. Paypal can reverse the credit at any point, often months later...

We tried to sell a mobile phone, and always got it sold to someone who wanted it shipped to Nigeria, which seems to be the scam country of choice! Usually the actual buyer (allegedly) lived in the UK, but we had various stories - send to my friend who is a missionary in Nigeria, for example.
there was also a rumour that the scam merchants were able to withdraw the paypal payment after the item had been shipped, but we never got involved to this extent.
We also had a case of money transfer type agreement where an email was received from a company purporting to be holding money in payment for the goods. You were supposed to get a reference number and then post the item, before receiving the payment, and get another ref number. The premis was that in order to protect the buyer, this company held the funds until proof of postage was forwarded to them! The Post Office had never heard of such a scheme.
It can be a bit of a nightmare [smiley=sad.gif]

Called Escrow, and is not uncommon. Obviously, unless you trust Escrow service, it can be dodgy...

Someone was bidding on my ebay account last week. I have changed my password and retracted (or tried to retract) the bids. Unfortunately the auction had ended and I had to go through ebays help system and I have not heard anything yet.

There is a similar scam going round just now when selling cars. I advertised a car on Autotrader recently (no - not the meega! ;)) and a couple of days later got a text from someone wanting to buy it and could I contact him by email. Although it was a UK email address I subsequently found out this guy was in Hungary and wanted me to accept payment from someone else who owed him cash and then I could ship the car to Hungary and send him the remainder.
Now this seems fine on paper - i.e. you get a cheque up front, take your cut and send the remainder and the car on to the buyer. Except it's a money laundering scam too and is tied to the drugs trade.
These offers are best ignored... if it sounds too good to be true then it probably is.

This isnt an Ebay scam.....but just thought id mention it anyway.
In local rag today.....there was an article on a phone scam.
Basically cards are being shoved through doors from a company called PDS (Parcel Delivery Service) saying they tried to deliver a parcel today but you wernt in and can you call em to re-arrange delivery
The number they give is 0906 6611911 and apparantly if you call it you get a recorded announcement and thats just cost you £15 on your phone bill :o
Royal Mail Fraud dept and ICSTIS are investigating apparently.
So be warned as they must be operating in other parts of the country :y
