Post by: mark.adams on 15 August 2011, 17:44:13
I have a couple of small rust break throughs on the drivers sill, is there anyone recommended nationally or locally for such work?

they dont look that bad a good clean up see how it is, looks like its not gone just the top, had worse, if just a mil then would fill with som filler if more than then weld a plate in, not hard job, clean up then cut out the bad area make a plate to fit and tack ( make it fit in hole may need to drill hole in new plate and put it up to old sill, use a bolt in the new hole so can pull it into place) it in then weld it proper, clean up and fill with some filler sand down jobs good for respray. :y

also looks like the rust is from the clip holes that hold the rubber seal on, when taking the seal off becareful not to just go at it or can make it worse... use a flat knife or a pait striper blade to take the rubber off. do it a bit at a time. from left to right then right to left until if comes off.

Not afaik. Most tend to accept I bit of rust tbh. Rear wheel arches ESP.
Ime if it's showing through on the sil, then it will be much worse under the side skirt.

A case of finding a reputable coach works or body shop prepared to give the best quote.

I would remove the plastic side skirt myself, along with all the clips if going ahead, so they can't cheat and cover the worst of it up behind the skirt itself.
