Title: Whats it worth whole/parts?
Post by: barclay03 on 04 February 2008, 10:28:32
Im at a loss with the omega, havent even touched it after failed its MOT!

Its a 97 silver 2.5 V6 saloon, near 100k, service book fully stamped, 5 months tax still on it, all tyres have plenty of meat in them (one has only done about 30 miles), tidy outside, and very tidy interior, and black metal grill.

failed on steering idler arm (which is an easy job to do iirc), and emissions - not sure where to start there, suspected lambda failure and may also require new cat(s), also have brand new AFM ready to go on.

was wondering from your more experianced knowledge, what you reckon itd go for if i sold as is, or stripped for parts? as id be looking for close to £1000 if i put it through its MOT, after price of the parts and how much the car already owes me etc

Before thinking about breaking, try and sort the problems. :)

Steering idler is not too bad and costs around £35.

Emissions. Now the number of times I have heard people say, "00h the lambda is shot" or "you need a new cat mate".

Do you have the emission figures it produced at the MOT?

First recommendation would be a good dose of injection cleaner (Forte is excellent) followed by a really good "workout" of the engine ;)

Only problem with repairing it at the moment is im pretty skint (omega was already up for sale before MOT), plus ill have another (cheaper) car next week or so to get me around - been looking for work for past 3 months with no luck so moneys became really tight

I think you will get the same either way to be honest, so its probably better to try and sell it on here/e-bay with the faults listed and see how you go. IMHO
