I was always under the impression that there wasn't one but when I removed the rad (replacement fitted 7 years ago at a VX garage) there was one.
Little half inch gnurled head located on passenger side at the bottom of rad on a UK car.

Thanks Mr Tunnie I'll take another look. If I remove this will it empty the cooling system of all 9 litres?

No - a few litres will be left in the engine block, matrix and other nooks and crannies. I guess I got around five out of mine.

it will only dump whats in the rad and expansion tank, water will remain in the engine block and heater matrix, you will only dump around half of your coolant.
I'm not sure if it would be a good idea to fill it back up with fresh water, run for just a minute or so (with heaters on full to flush heater matrix) - Then dump the coolant again.
Anyone got any thoughts? :-/
I assume its going to be stood for a week before the great one replaces your oil cooler?

I'm not sure if it would be a good idea to fill it back up with fresh water, run for just a minute or so (with heaters on full to flush heater matrix) - Then dump the coolant again.
Anyone got any thoughts? :-/

This is more or less what Mark suggested I should do. :y Drain and refill with water each time I use it.

It might seem obvious, but you will need to remove the header tank lid for air to displace the water. If you dont then not much will come out. This is a useful feature to avoid your arm getting too wet. Open the plug, then remove the cap.
Also, the drain plug will come out totally - but has a feature so that you can fully unscrew it and just let it dangle there. Pull it out if needs be - but dont forget where you put it.
Dont forget that the coolant isn't nice stuff - it's toxic, so dont pour it down the drain.
I took mine down the local tip and they were happy to pour it in with the waste oil "we separate it all out later mate".

It keeps the slugs away, that's why you never get slug bites in your Rad! ::)

What a good idea TH :y :y. At the moment I'm trying to locate their exit holes, which is not as easy as it sounds. They produce huge piles of earth but leave virtually no evidence of the hole that it came from. Then, I shove the hose down (what I believe to be their tunnel) and turn it on......No success to date.... :-/ :-/ :-/

Opti, be careful when tightening the drain plug. They don't need to be that tight and twist off if you get abit heavy handed..... as I found out... :-[ :-[ :-[

Over tightening the drain tap won't help it seal any better. It seals via the 2 O rings so, like the oil filter cap, you're only tightening it enough to prevent it from rattling loose in use. :y
