Title: Am I faced with scrapping or?
Post by: moneyspider on 23 August 2011, 19:42:23
Hi, long story short, cam sensor error code, and torque converter clutch stuck off error code  >:(, told to change cam sensor as this may be throwing up gear box code, fitted new genuine cam sensor, no joy still getting torque converter error code  :(, and car going into limp mode   >:(, car is scrap value against another car part x at car sales places, so do I get hold of a auto box and fit, take the scrap value and trade it in, or bite the bullet altogether and scrap the car altogether  >:(, I think there is more to just changing the auto box as in, the ecu will not recognise the different box, any help and advice what to do here would be great :y

What is the code?

Code is P1870 torque converter clutch stuck off
and P1871 not present DTC,

Other symptom is thumping into gears, always when free wheeling and slowing down, never thumps when accelerating and changing up, spanner light has never come on when the thumping has happened, only accelerating  puts the light on.

Thanks.

If you go down the gearbox replacement route, I can have a good 'box complete with T/C delivered to you for about £100.  :y

Wow that is a good price  :y, but can this be fitted by me for instance? I am thinking swapping out I can probably do, but if you need a Tech2 then I am goosed  :-/

Thanks for the offer though.

Hard work and a bit awkward (really needs two people) but not really technical. ;)

I just spent £1100 on getting another engine fitted so that I didn't have to scrap it and buy another car of indeterminate quality!

Fix it and enjoy it.
