Chris's post about getting wheel bearing reminded me I might need one, during my weekend service noticed there was play in the near side front wheel.
The left to right movement showed some play, maybe about 1mm or 2mm, could definitely wobble it side to side. Top to bottom was rock solid, was zero play in off side.
In reality in a 12 year old barge, is it worth doing anything about? Can't complain really about tyre wear issues, they have worn evenly on the front over the course of 36k.
Handling.... well its a 2.2 on stock suspension and tired bushes. Also has no noise.
Worth attention? or wait until the wheel falls off? ;D ;D

If the play is only in one direction it's more likely to be (in this case) a track rod end or steering idler. :y

Thanks Kevin :y
Steering idler arm does look nackered, also every time i go to WIM they say my track rod ends are shagged and they have to heat them up to adjust them.

What you need to do is to get underneath and feel for the play in the joints while someone rocks the wheel.

Bit of an issue doing that, I'm in London now. Was planning to visit WIM on my way home in a couple of weeks. :-/
Last time I will get a chance to go before my MOT expires :(

As Kevin Wood says, if only in 9/3 oclock, thats gonna be steering components. Normally easy enough to locate which part is knacked.
Not worth WIMing until sorted.

Hummm but I do need new tyres soon, have to work out what it is before MOT

How much play is there? Just enough that you can feel it or is there visible movement? It's not necessarily going to be an MOT failure.
Is the WIM visit urgent? Is it chewing through tyres currently? Can you not just get a set of boots put on locally and WIM it when you've had a chance to fix the play?

Lets hope you don't get a puncture then ........ :)

Ah yes I do have that little jack in the boot, forgot about that. But not confident with that, its like trying to prop a TV up with a tooth pick!
Kevin - No tyre use is fine, but rears barely legal. Visit there is to get some new boots for MOT which expires mid October.
Sounds like plenty of time, but due to my commitments at the moment, I have very, very little spare time to get home :(

Sounds like TRE to me. Why not buy one and get WIM to fit it when you visit them for the Geo, it's not a big job after all. :-/

They are very tired, and do need heat for WIM to adjust. I'd be tempted to get a pair and fit them.
Do we have a good source for them?

Bought my last one from Buy parts By, but despite informing them multiple times which side I wanted they still sent the wrong side.
I would say if you buy both sides they can't go wrong, but knowing Buy parts By they'll probably send you a steering wheel for a Transit.
Sorry, they aren't top of my list having wasted my time last time I used them!
EDIT:
There's a couple of QH branded ones on evilbay:-
