how much oil presure would it take to blow ecotec outer oil plug in side of engine and what damage could it make to engine, only asking as seen engine with this fault going cheap and was thinking of doing another engine just in case mine went?? £60 for engine only.. thanks.

update put down to £35 now hum??
-
Bit of an odd one that as most of the oil way plugs are screw threaded!

thats what was put on sale advert, i would of thought it would pop out the dip stick or gasket but thats what was said and now wants £35 for it now. with out fittings, just engine, and timing cover.

I cant imagine which bit they are referring to unless it means the camcover (with ecotec on it), might be if breathers are blocked :o
If I were buying a 2.0 I would want to hear it running and ideally under load; too many of them have high bore wear and knock under load (piston slap) you can ignore this up to a point and then a ring breaks.

That's interesting. :)
I've often wondered why ours makes a fair bit of 'unhappy' noise if you try to take off from a standing start with not-enough revs, or try to accelerate in too high a gear. This could be the problem. At 183k probably not surprising either.
Same sort of noise any car makes on the point of stalling? But needing less than expected provocation?
As to the OP's question, what damage has been done by a high pressure (presumably) oil leak depends how quickly the engine was stopped after the idiot light came on, I guess.

Mine at 155k still sounds smooth, think oil every 3k helps. But I'm just waiting for the HG to go, although it has had new coolant every year since I got it 5 years ago :-/
