Good morning everyone. I have noticed the wipers getting a bit slow and slightly juddery. Before I get the spanners out, does this sound like a failing wiper motor?
-
Judder would be down to worn wiper blades. Probably a good idea to get a replacement motor to have on stand by too.

Could be the linkages :-/ There doesn't seem to be many recorded cases here of failed motors. The whole mechanism comes out reasonably easily - careful of your driver's sdie wing :y
-
Thanks for advice! The blades are new so I will check the linkages. :y
-
Got a motor with linkage attached here if you need one. ;)
ambulance chaser mode off. Before RobG mentions it. :P ;D

Pull the scuttle off and check the earth before you start ripping bits off ;) ;)

Any idea how the battery condition is or how old? could be a sign of weak battery? :y
-
Aye, true. The battery has given no problems as yet but then again, with the engine running would this affect wipers?

no ;)

If the battery is weak, example you have the lights on the same time the wipers are also on, would be visible! an you mean engine running not while your driving? :y

Oh Yess!!! i had the problem thats why saying possible battery or alternator ;) ;D

No mention of starting problems / slow engine turnover in the op ;)
Hence I would look at the wiper supply / earth first ;)

I'd try the cheap and easy things first. A squirt of cycle chain lubricant to the spindles and linkages. If this makes a noticeable improvement, whip 'en out and do the clean and lube job properly when convenient. And check the earth at the same time.
Worth checking voltages too, if you have a meter that really is good to 0.1V or better - cheap and easy again.
But I have Scottish ancestry ;)

Pretty sure there is no specific earth for the wiper motor. It is either earthed via the wring in its multi plug, or the motor body is the earth when attached to the chassis.I would suspect the former. ;)
Would agree about trying lubricating li kage though. Might just be a tad gummed up. :y

True.... ;)

I will indeed check nice simple things first. Nothing else is giving signs of alternator or battery problems so fingers crossed..

Just be careful that everything is switched off before you stick your fingers in around the linkage,be a shame to lose a finger for faster wipers ;) :y

Hi
I had this problem and found lubrication was the solution.
