Title: Cambelt Party Accomodation
Post by: Timbuk on 05 February 2008, 20:27:00
Sorry for the delay in sorting some accomodation guys but after having to fly out to Tenerife unexpectedly I have had very little time to sort anything out. I came back at the end of last week but i am still very anxious about the situation out there and have a million and one things to do here, so my visits on here over the next couple of weeks leading up to the party are not going to be very frequent but i will do my best to check places out. I would appreciate a bit of help with this, maybe a few of you could try and find some places to stay off the web and i can check them out as they come in or maybe Tab could help out with saying whats good and whats not as he also lives in Telford. I will check Naughty Nells out before the weekend as i think this is a good place to start. As for staying in the unit itself i am going to have to say that this is a non starter. I understand that going away for a night or two can get expensive especially with fuel costs etc etc and a free nights dossing in the unit would help, but it is on an industrial estate, i have to keep gates locked etc etc. I really don't mind anybody staying there its just all the other things that go with it. Hope you will see where i am coming from on this one.
I really am looking forward to the 23rd, its the first time we have had anywhere undercover big enough for a party and i would love it to be a success and everyone enjoys themselves and i also think by then i am going to be well overdue a large ale session ;)

Absolutely no probs as regards the unit and not crashing over.  I understand the implications, just being the tight Jock as always...  Happy to book a room at Naughty Nells or a travelodge or wherever, provided we get a chance to have a couple of small dry sherries in good company, without paying over the top bar prices....   :y

Thinking out loud here (always a bad thing) but how practicle would it be to do the work on the cars etc on the Saturday at the unit, BBQ/curry/whatever with beers et al at the unit, then hiring a minibus or similar to transport a load of drunks to the accomodation (wherever) leaving the cars under lock and key until the Sunday??

will minibus drivers be willing to drive bad dirty, greasy, drunk blokes, as chances are we'll get somewhat covered in oil...

I think Naughty Nells has nine rooms, if we can manage to get in there or near there, we can walk from the unit

sounds like the basis of a plan of sorts.

First in gets the beds, rest need to pull up some floor.....   ;D

Looks like Naughty Nells only has the 4 poster bed available and the other hotel in Schifnell is fully booked.

The international hotel in Telford is only 42 quid a night:

Looks like this is about 2miles away....

It implies you can ask for extra bed in room to reduce costs?

Since i HAVE to drive back on the night , eventually, and will be steadfastly remaining sober, I could do some ferrying around...  prior to departure...  , On the whole i think we'll put plastic sheeting over the interior of my Elite first though  :y

The one you posted in Telford seems like a go-er, just means some cant have too much of a drink until arriving at hotel, unless people fancy walking - about 2 miles I reckon.

Be better if we all stayed at same place?

I'm tempted to get a banker in before they book out.

I've just booked a room there.. No sign of anything on the confirmation... Keeps referring to Ts and Cs which just aren't there. However, it says no deposit is charged... :-/

Stop Press: Just got the email confirmation and it's on there:

Cancellations:If
cancelled up to 1 day before the date of arrival,  no fee will be
charged.
If cancelled later or in case of no-show, the first night will
be

Note the following.......

Children and extra beds
All children are welcome. All children under 12 years stay free of charge when using existing bedding. All children under 2 years stay free of charge for cots. All older children or adults stay free of charge for extra beds. Maximum capacity of extra beds/babycots in a room is 1.
No deposit will be charged.

So, if you want an extra bed for Greg......just ask and they will provide!

Thanks for that Mark, didn't notice that bit. Mind you, we probably won't give a monkey's after copious amounts of beer!! ::)

Mind you, I did specify twin beds in the "special requirements" box so maybe that will do the trick.

I for one fancy seeing what a night in Telford is like....what we need is a 'Telfordian' to advise

In a word..... SH!T, Telford Town Centre consists of a shopping centre and nothing else!!!!!!!!!!

So whats the plan then Doug......you gonna show us the highlights!

Booked into Int Hotel Telford.

That's me taken care off.

Pets are allowed as well, no extra charge.

 that's right ;D

the nearest pub to the hotel is the severn gorge opposite the cop shop right next to the shopping centre.

if it's justs pubs you're after then shifnal's the place, but if you want nightclubs oakengates has some(but i think they're a load of crap tbh and not the friendliest place in telford either)

i reckon it'll cost you about a fiver to get back to the hotel from shifnal, it's about 4-5 miles.

I'm sure with us lot all in there we'll make our own atmosphere! ;)

Seriously though, as long as they have some decent beer and don't rip you off it could be one for the "tour". :y

So pub crawl round Shifnal, then train back to telford? Assuming trains run that late, else taxi.

Do we need to book in to hotel first - ie, Dougs unit > hotel book in/shower > shifnal > pub crawl > sleep in gutter outside pub?

Yes, the thought of beering smelling of ATF and antifreeze does not appeal.
