Title: No Radio reception?
Post by: Arrolman on 14 March 2007, 17:47:15
Hi,

I've just replaced the standard head unit on my 96 2.5 CD for a nice shiny DVD player, as it had the old aerial jack I went and bought an adaptor, I tested it when I got it and it picked up Radio 1 etc, but now that my unit has been installed, everything checked and double checked, theres no reception at all?

Thoughts?

Cheers,
Iain

I suspect that either the aerial connector has come off the adaptor or the wire has been damaged when the unit was inserted....

Having experienced this very same problem I will say that is exactly what the problem is.

Had stereo out, all wires checked and ok, radio jack is seated fine, no visible signs of damage, think it'll be heading to an auto electricians next week

Iain

Where does the aerial amp get its power from?  The head unit's electric aerial signal?

Could be that the Amplifier power cable needs moving in the ISO block I had a situation where the Amplifier was not getting any power so I moved one of the cables over in the ISO block and got radio.

Think its the Blue/White wire was in the wrong place you could have a similar problem.

It could also be that the output from the radio isn't man enough to power it. IIRC, the power wire to the preamp is fastened to the antenna wire along its' length. You could try connecting this to the ignition switched 12v feed to the radio directly.

Edited to say: You might want to put a low value (1 amp?) inline fuse in the connection because the wire is a bit weedy and the feed to the radio is fised at 10a IIRC.
