Title: Installing the original radio in my MV6, Need help
Post by: Jim on 12 August 2007, 19:42:12
Hello,

Right today I decided to install the original vauxhall radio back in to my MV6, as with the after-market one you can't use the digital display on the dash, so when I un-installed the aftermaket one this is what I found, any advice, any idea's;

I'm sure there is something missing at the end of this cable;

And further down the same loom half the cable have been cut and is missing,

And these cables where already cut, the cables stick out from behind the ashtray, bottom-right. I'm not sure if they have anything to do with a telephone kit;

And these cables where taped down to the top of the climate control, one on each of the back of the temperture display's and are sealed at the ends

The blue and black wires with sealed ends are the Y antenna for the Trafficmaster IIRC

Cheers Mate, I didn't know that. Are they supposed to be taped to the back of the climate control unit.

Imagine so, (I knew what they were from my vectra - they were taped to the top of the glovebox in that) they need to be stretched apart - like those cheapie FM aerial's you used to get with cheap jap midi systems!

I never would have guessed they where for the traffic-master, cheers for that :y
Anybody got any ideas how to repair whats left of the radio cables, so that I can put the original radio back?

I reckon the best thing you can do is get a loom (or as much of a loom as possible) from a scrapper and cut what you've got back to a point before the phantom slasher got to it then attach your salvage loom to it with soldered and shrink wrapped connections.

I think the wires in picture 3 may be the trafficmaster loom (For power, mute and audio). If you search for traffic master on ebay i'm sure you'll find a picture that shows the loom.

The bit you think is missing from picture 1... shouldn't that connector have a third row of connections? Possibly for the MID?

I agree. Looks likle the 3rd connector was broken off the moulding and the wires cut (and not insulated :o) to make the ISO connectors fit an aftermarket head unit.

You need to at least get the missing connector. May as well get a section of the loom and graft it on.

If you have no luck I've got a complete wiring loom from a 98 GLS, in a box, under a desk, in my garage  ;)
