Title: Simple Philips radio wiring question
Post by: Varche on 14 October 2007, 13:18:41
A Spanish neighbour saw me with my bonnet up and stopped and asked me if I could fit "this radio" taken out of a car into his tractor. A real tractor not a diesel Omega!

I thought it would be quite simple as it is a fairly old radio cassette unit.

On the back the wiring was shown in schematic but some parts are not visible.

I understand the 4 wires for speakers but the other four are:

Yellow/Red ( Battery 12 volts permanent connection?)

Blue (automatic aerial ? maybe )

Red (big thick wire)  + 12 volts  to the ignition maybe?

Brown to earth ( negative earth)

He would be quite happy if I wire it up so he has a dangling switch to make it go.  He has a caterpillar tractor that he bump starts after leaving on a slope as the starter is tatered. Quite a sight

Would think the thick red wire would go to the permanent live and the red/yellow to the switched live.
Agree Brown to Earth and Blue for electric aerial.

I'm assuming both the radio and the vehicle are 12V Negative Earth!?
