Title: blanked switches
Post by: Don9247 on 16 October 2007, 11:40:08
Hey guys a quick question,

I was fitting a new stereo and i removed all of the dials and switches of the front console, Now i noticed that where there were blank plastic inserts instead of actuall switches along where you turn your hazards , aitcon , inside alarm deactcvate, rear dimester, now next to them on either sides are blanks covering where you would put a switch in but there are contacts behind them with wires that go some where does anyone know (im sure lots will know) what are the extra buttons that go here what do they do? I rmoved my demister button and put in place of the blanks the light comes on to show the switch is working but I dont actually know if it does anything? can anyone help.

Wiring will be in place for the assorted options that were available for the car when new, just that the actual heating pads for the seats and similar will not be fitted!

Here are some switches on e-bay that may give you a further idea of 'what you could have won' [/bullseye voiceover voice   ;D ]

Remember, getting the switches wont neccessarily mean that the actual gubbins it powers will be fitted or working.  If the switch lights up, all it means is that theres power to the switch...   :y

Depending what year your car is will depend on what they do 'if' they are wired up.

As a rule of thumb

Mini-facelift from left to right - Heated pass seat, rear blind, de-activate internal ultra sonics on alarm, heated rear window, hazzard lights, recirc for heating, eco for air con, traction control, heated driver seat.

Pre-mini-facelift, as above except traction control button is by radio (coin tray on mini facelift) and rear blind is rear door de-mister button (Elite only IIRC)

And yes there will be someone with the buttons in different positions, but the above is 'generally' the case, and may be different if you have dial heating rather than climate control/ air con

Nearly. Just to confuse matters, early mini facelift (1998 models) that do not have the Carin still have the TC buy radio.
