Hi.
Forgive me if this has been answered before somewhere.
My 1998 Omega has a standard Philips Car 400 stereo system. I took it out today to exchange for a Sony CDX-GT616U CD/MP3 which I originally installed in my Rover 820i. However I have found that the connectors from the Omega are completely different to the Sony. Can anyone tell me if I can get an adaptor or something for it. When I originally fitted it into the Rover all the connectors were exactly the same. :-[

The Omega has standard ISO plugs (with the exception that the two power lines, permanent and switched, are reversed). So it must be your Sony that has a non-standard interface. You need to find an interface that will convert the Sony interface to ISO -- I'm surprised that this isn't supplied with the radio, in fact it's probably been lost somewhere along the way as almost all aftermarket stereos have ISO plugs either on the unit or on a supplied converter.

Thanks for the reply.
According to the Sony website, the connector is an ISO on the back. It is a small connector with 16 pins. The Omega block has 22! I'm lost :)

the omega has an extra block of pins for the display you will need to chop off the smaller bottom block to fit standard iso connecters bud :y

No you dont they just push in, 2 of the 'bolcks' on the Sony will push into 2 of the 'blocks' on the car loom
But you will loose the display and the steering controls, IF you had them to begin with

Get a Connects 2 adaptor and keep the display

IIRC, its the red and yellow wires on a standard ISO plug that need swapping to fit to VX cars? (The aforementioned perm and switched lives?)

I'm such a pleb. I left the cable which came with the Sony in the Rover. Just connected it in the Omega and hey presto, my Sony works wonders.

Hi.
Sorry can someone tell me again which wires I have to swap to keep power to the memory on the stereo? The Sony works fine now but I lose stations and graphic equaliser settings every time I leave the car. :-[

95% sure its the red and yellow wires. Chaps?

On the Sony harness in my 98 there are two wires (red and yellow I think) that have bullet connections in the middle of the wire to allow you to swap them over to cure this.
Check your stereo wiring diagram and you need to swap the ignition and permanent live lines.

perment and switched 12v need swapping....

You can double check the car's 12v and permanent feeds simply with a multi-meter and switching the ignition on and off.
The stereo should have a schematic on the lid ;)

SWITCH red & yellow,
only prob is you cant use stereo with ign off.
