Title: Interior Light Problem
Post by: Golfbuddy on 24 October 2007, 20:09:11
So, this weekend I took on the Hilper Boot Release project. All went well and the boot now opens whenever I want it to. The only problem is that the interior light now only goes off on the timer not on the switch.

To explain a bit better. When you pull the headlamp switch the interior light comes on and should go off when you push it back in again, but it doesn't. It does go off after about 10 seconds but this is annoying. Why should this be the case? Is the interior light switch connected to the wire you have to cut for the boot release mod?

I am a bit lost with this. Anyone got any ideas?

Hmmm. I hadn't thought of that. Can I get some sort of removal kit from Halfords?  :-?

Don't know if it will be suitable for your car as it only works on the facelift model and I don't know if yours is or not but this (http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1155211091) is the link.

Others will know if you have a facelift model and, if you do the job, let us know about the interior light.

Well, I have resolved the problem, somewhat.

I decided that I couldn't live with the lights staying on for 10 to 15 seconds everytime I got into the car or when I pulled the headlight switch to turn on the curteousy lights. So, the only option was to put it all back the way it was before.

The good news is that the interior lights now go on and off as they should. The bad news is that I have to take the bloomin' key out everytime I want to open the boot.

If anyone has any better ideas then please let me know.

I looked at it on the basis that I only need to pop the boot with the key in once a fortnight or so but I have to get in and drive in the dark every day so that's the more important to me. I fitted a spade connector so I can easily unplug it in the summer when we may use the boot more often. :)

Central Locking / Alarm ECU controls the boot opening and the interior light. If you take away the signal that tells it the keys are in it affects both functions as they rely on the same input, I imagine.  :(

Kevin

It didn't affect the central locking or appear to have any affect the alarm system but it just wasn't easy to live with the delay on the lights going off.  :(

I was going to take the speed signal and use it to charge a small cap with a resistor in parralel.....so when moving the boot cant be opened but, when stationary the cap discharges and the boot can be opened

You would still get the light staying on with the ignition on but, it would go off the second you started moving away.

How about a push to break switch on the feed line, Push both switches and the boot pops.
Wouldn't affect the interior light and unlikely to hit both at once when moving?

Sounds like interior light nirvana. The light is on when you need it but off when you don't.

Although, would this mean that you couldn't put the light on at all when the car was moving?
