Title: Power Inverter Installation
Post by: estaszew on 26 November 2007, 01:33:49
I'd like to permanently install and wire a power inverter in my 98, but can't seem to find a suitable place.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  I want the outlets by the driver.  The unit is not too big.  My best option so far has been to put it in the boot with wiring for a switch and the outlets near the middle shifter section.

Nah, just for phone charger, Ipod , etc.  Tired of plugging it into the cig lighter.

boot option seems the best idea, as long as you competant and willing to install a "propper" plug socket should not realy be a problem, would mean running a power cable from battery (with a suitable fuse of course) and rig it up that way, most only need about 5A or so at 12v to operate, obviously you would need some way of controling it, maybe a relay connected to your vehicle ign ??

can be done but will take a bit of work,
tbh probably not worth the trouble, when you could just get a cigar lighter extension cable and run it that way.

have fun
cheers

One option would be to use the 20A aux supply for the trailer hitch.....

Thanks for the replies.  I already have a fused power line for an amplifier.  It would be easily accessible in the boot or near the firewall.  The trouble is finding a good hidden location for a clean install.  I wish there was more room in the armrest for it, or under the seat.  Even if it's in the boot, I can't find a good place for the outlet/s as I presume it'll just be hanging around the driver's bay.  I don't use it too much, so perhaps the cig adaptor is sufficient.
