any one had Cdc Safe on a ccr2006 radio how do you get it off, tried putting in radio code but still says the same. Radio works fine
-
"CDC Safe"? Haven't seen that one beofre. It's not even listed in the manual. ou say the radio works ok. Have you tried the CD player and tape player?
Sounds like it may be a problem with the CD unit?
-
Hi, ye radio works ok, no sure about tae player (dont use them anymore) its just when I press cd player I get cdc safe on the display
-
CD unit wants a code entered, not sure what the sequence is for that unit?
-
There is no seperate code for 2006 CD, it would appear this means its knackered....
-
Its an interesting one.....
The unit is made up of three sections.
1) A tape player/radio/amplifier unit (upper most) - Single DIN size
2) A front panel/switch PCB
3) A 4 disc CD changer unit (lower unit) - Single DIN size
The 3 sections when assembled together make up a double din unit
The upper unit connects to the front panel and the CD changer has a ribbon cable which connects to the upper unit, its just possible that this ribbon cable has become detached.
If you remove the unit then you need to detach the front panel (be VERY careful and ensure that you ease all the retaining clips off and remove all the screws or you will damage it) and then detach the CD player, at which point you can then get at the ribbon cable.

I would like to run diagnostics on one of these units with this fault. If anyone has this fault and is passing near me, pop it in and I will see if Tech2 can identify and faults (maybe just needs any DTCs cleared?)
-
Mine has a CCR 2006. When I bought it, the seller gave me two codes, said one for radio, one for CD unit. :-/

Very odd, as the unit, afaik, only has one code....
To OP, if you turn radio on with the source select button pressed, do you get option to enter seperate CD code?

Sorry TB, correction. He gave me a code for CD and said that the radio didn't need one. ( I wish I could find it, might have a bit more info on it)

Anyone know where the best place to get a lost code for the radio and cd changer is??

Potentially vauxhall dealer I think, would be first try...or could try a local ice shop they may know how to clear it?
-
There is another way...For the money that Vaux would want to look at it, you could almost buy a 2nd hand radio from Ebay. When I got my current car, the battery was flat so the radio had lost its code, and I would have to pay a fair bit to get it decoded. Instead I bought a 2nd hand JVC radio/Casette with 12 CD autochanger for not a lot more than it would have the radio fixed. OK, I had to get a replacement panel for the DIN radio but that was only £10. Plus you could always sell the CRD 2006 for a reasonable fee.
Just an idea, ;D
Cheers Ken

Depending on how much of a scumbag your local dealer is, they charge from £10 - £32.50 (Crownhill, MK) + VAT for carpass. Carpass has radio code, cd code if applicable, immbiliser code (required to program keys etc) and mechanical key no.
Failing that, there are places on net that decode from serial number for £5 upwards...

Hi all, thanks for the suggestions. If you hold the cd source button down when turning it on there is no option to enter a code, I have also had the unit out and checked the ribbon cable but thats all ok (sadly). I have also tried disconnecting the battery (before I decided to take unit out) to reset the unit but alas that was also a no go. Think I will take to a garage I now in widnes and see if he can pull any fault codes with tech2.

Did you ever get to Tech2 one one of these with this problem? If not you can have my old one when I get a replacement. I've got exactly the same problem which happened when the battery went flat while the car was parked up for a few weeks. Put new battery on and everything else works fine just the darn CD player won't (radio code works ok).

No, I haven't yet. Its not a common problem, but just common enough to pop up here once in a while...

CDC Safe is a very common software fault on the CD Changer. It is basically asking for a Code that cannot be entered. I have the facility to reprogram the unit and repair that software fault. Check out this link for full details
