Hi All
Can any one tell me if I should have any warning lights indicating when the front or rear fog lamps are switched on. (push switches underneath headlamp rotary switch)
I don't seem to have any, but I thought it was a requirement to have a warning light to say when rear fog lights are on.
Also, when I pull on the headlamp switch knob it clicks out. I can't see anything, but is this switching something on or off.

You should have a warning lap on the dash, mine are in the bottom corners of the speedo (but your face lift is slightly different from my mini face lift.)
Pulling the light switch out should turn on your front courtesy lamps -

Post 98 cars have warning lights below speedo. Pre 98 have lights on the actual switches.

.. and it is a requirement to have one. Not sure you'd fail an MOT for it, but I was pulled up for not having one on the kit car at SVA (that was a
nother hurried bodge in the test centre car park!)

You will fail the MOT.....my old Nova did when the bulb failed in the switch.

on the facelift, are the actual switches backlit? mine aren't and it's very hard to find them when driving in the dark. if they are meant to be backlit I guess you just pop the switch unit out and replace right?

Your instrument panel.....are any of the readings in blue (i.e. Km's)

can't think now. have to check but no I think it's all orange backlit. does it make a difference?

And yours is a facelift car (i.e. mid1999 or later)?
If so, the Km reading from memory is in blue if the correct instrument panel is fitted, just considering that maybe its been swapped for an earlier version.

The panels without the fog light indicators are the pre minifacelift ones, which aren't electrically compatible iirc :-/

sorry, I was asking if the actual switches were backlit - i.e. light up in the dark, not the visual confirmations on the dash which work fine.
it is definitely facelift.
-
Yes, once you turn on the lights in your car, then the foglight switches should be backlit.

Ahhhh....post highjack!
Yes they aer backlit but its by two LEDS in parralel with a single series resistor and if one fails the other follows soon after.....
So I suspect you will find two knackered LEDS in the switch.

I have a strange fault with mine at the moment when the car is in reverse (auto box) the fog light indicator lights up on the dash only dim but its thier . Any ideas why... I have had the switch apart and changed all the l.e.d in the process but still it comes on but only in reverse.

Check the earths/connections in the boot on the light clusters and the main point on the body (behind the pastic trim on saloons)
