Good morning everyone
I have a small issue with my Philips CD changer, it seems to take forever to load and play a CD. I can start the car and turn the radio/CD on and it take up to 5 miles or 20 minutes before the CD will start to play. I have substituted the CD player with 2 other DCO12 but I am not sure if they are in good working order or not, but all 3 suffer similar symptoms.
I do not wish to change the system as the quality is more than good enough for me.
So would anyone have any ideas or suggestions.

P.S. I see quite a few Blaupunkt units for sale, is it a direct swap for the Philips or will I need to change a cable/s.

No, the Blaupunkt and Philips are not interchangeable.
Make sure you are using good quality / clean discs and not CD-R`s
And if all else has failed - laser has probably gone, which is very common of a unit of that age. Probably not an economic option to replace the laser nowadays on that one.

Thanks for the reply, I am using CD-R's at the moment but will try normal discs when I get home, Is there a replacement CD changer that will plug into the existing lead and work with my head unit which is a SC804CDC.

The most likely cause is the laser dying as Dave says. The unit will be at least 12yrs old so it will have done well.
No, there is not an alternative I am afraid. You have the choice of changing for another Philips CDC012 (risky) or replacing the headunit for a good quality more modern aftermarket one (which is what I would do as the difference is sound quality is huge!)

NONE of the Vauxhall Changers are CDR/RW compatable, and you have probably strained the laser trying to read the smaller computer generated dots on the disc than the larger ones expected by a commercially produced disc.
Just because a CD player plays a CDr it does not mean that it is compatable. Rapid wear of the laser is inevitable. I have explained the differences in previous threads.
