Title: Cruise control not working.
Post by: Kate on 10 February 2008, 15:26:20
Hi.  Does anyone have any idea why cruise control might not work?  I've checked the fuse and it seems ok.

Thanks very much.

Yes......check the brake pedal switch....one trick is to pull the switch plunger out whilst the pedal is pressed.

Thanks.  Sorry for being stupid but where would the switch be?

Behind brake pedal - its quite high, and you need to remove the cardboard panel to get to it...

The wire that goes to the cruise button on the indicator stalk might be cut, from years of using the stalk. It should be visible if you pull out the rubber surrounding it a bit.
Or cable to cruise actuator broken...
I have seen both these things happen.

If it is the switch they're not too dear. I'd to buy one last year as mine wouldn't let me change from P when I wanted to. A bit embarrasing at the lights. :-[

Also if its a Manual Box, check Clutch and Gearbox selctor Switch, and sometime the actual stalk switch plays up.. try pressing it a bit harder than you need to.

zirk.

I have the same problem on my 2.5 Auto. so useful to see if you get yours sorted Kate.

Mine has never worked since I got the car a year ago. I recently asked the main Stealer to check it (whilst doing MoT). They did a Tech 2 and said it was not giving any fault codes and asked if any work had been carried out before (I had no idea), they wanted another £105 to explore further for an hour, so I left it.

Will check switch but if it is the actuator/motor does a replacement need a tech 2 install?

No. That's for the later cars that are drive by wire.

What does drive by wire mean? Mine's still not fixed yet. :(

Three questions :

Has it ever worked ?
Are you riding the clutch a little ?
What speed are you doing when you try and activate it ?

Cheers

Drive by wire are the later face lift cars that use electickery btween your foot & the throttle rather than a good old fashioned cable.
Yours has a cable.  :y

To be honest I'm a bit scared to mess on with it as I usually break more things!  ;D

I don't ride clutch. No, it's never worked and I tried it several times at 60mph.

What model is it ? CDX ?

Maybe someone has retro-fitted the stalk and not had it tech2'd

As said above. You only need to Tech II the 2.6 7 3.2 DBW cars .... & 2.2 diseasals.

It's a CDX.  What does tech 2 mean?

It's a diagnostic bit of kit that Vauxhall (& some members here ) use to 'talk' to your car.

Check bowden cable for jams or if snapped.

Or if you know someone capable of using a tech2, ask them to do a live data on it

Thanks. I suppose the main stealer would charge a fortune to tech 2 the engine?
