Hi,
I have a problem which is that the lights in the radio area do not light up. All the lights in the control panel and climate control panel seem ok though. I believe it is a CCRT 2008 radio.
How easy is it to change the bulbs in the radio?
Many thanks.

Check the front removable panel is clipped in properly.

I removed the four headless screws, but the unit does not want to come out easily. Should I apply force to pull it out?
Many thanks

To remove radio, you need proper radio removal keys.

Thanks for the reply. Are there bulbs located in the radio and are they easy to change?

My money is on a loose illumination wire into the back of the radio or the radio is not properly seated in its cage???
Never heard of any internal bulbs blowing in vx units. If they are blown they WILL be an arse to replace. If you manage to get the unit out, firstly, check for a voltage on the illumination wire. Do this by placing a multimeter between the illumination (usually orange) and somewhere on the chassis (earth) this should give you a reading. IIRC you will need to have the headlamp switch on :y
If you don't get a reading then possibly a faulty headlight switch?

Never encountered blown ones before - and wouldn`t really want to take the job on of trying to replace them if they were faulty !!
99.9% certain that your fault lies with the external lighting feed though.

Thanks for the replys. I will try and get the radio out to have a look. Also I have noticed that in the dash niether front or rear fog light symbol lights up when the fog lights are on, so the problem could be linked to the headlamp switch for both the radio light and fog lights.

I agree with the other guys, my 804 is intermittent! I took it out and had it all apart and all the little bulbs were ok >:( Checked the pin in the radio cage for the lights and it all works so I'm going along with the 'not engaging correctly in the cage plug' theory :(

I have one further question. Since everything else around the radio lights up ok, i.e. ashtray, climate control buttons, is the problem unlikely to be with the headlight switch?
Thanks

I should say not. The headlight switch will have a feed going away (maybe via a relay) to supply all the dashboard lights so if one works then I would say that the switch is ok. If you have some radio removing 'fingers' I'd jack the radio in and out a few times, it worked for me!!
