Evening all. Out driving tonight when battery light came on. :-?
Everything else seemed normal. Got out and checked auxilliary belt - all ok. Restarted to make sure it still 'had the hump', sure enough battery light still on. :(
My immediate thought is alternater goosed, anybody had this caused by something else (blown fuse etc)?

If you have a multi-meter handy ... check the voltage at the battery both engine off .. 12-12.5 V and engine running .. should be 14-14.5 V.
Also check battery terminals for tightnes and signs of overheating .. if they get hot, take them off and clean everthing properly.

Non-charging alternator......

Voltages checked, definitely not charging at all.
I've checked with stealers and exchange unit is £100 ish +titfer on TC.
Just had a look under the bonnet, not much room to get to alternator, is it best to attack it from above or below? (I didn't see a how-to in the maint guides).
I'd appreciate a little guidance from somebody 'in the know' if possible, thanks guys.

I'd be looking at the brushes & armature (or is a comutator :-/) first before I condem the alternator. ...... After you've removed the bu66er though! ;D

Theres a "how to" in the maintenance guides on resurrecting alternators ... might be worth a dabble before shelling out more than a ton of readies .. :(

Thanks for your responses guys.
I took the plunge friday night and removed my alternator. What an absolute git of a job!!!! >:(
I decided to go for a 'new' unit to avoid having to do it again in the near future. Exchanged at the stealers and installed, all is now working again.
If I get the time, I'll jot down a step by step guide (I wish I'd had one available before I tackled mine!).
