Title: Alarm on cold days + hot sunshine
Post by: Nextgen on 18 March 2008, 13:29:05
This one is driving me bonkers....
On a cold day outside, if the car gets whacked with hot sun, the alarm goes off....
Disabling the interior sensors seems not to help...
Bonnet sensor/ PowerSounder?
Its going off properly, flashing lights, horn, sounder, the works... not just the power sounder...
Is there any way of finding out which trigger set the alarm off?
1998 MV6 Estate....

Cheers in advance,
Edwin

It is the good old favourite of the bonnet sensor. ;)

It is the spring loaded sensor on the right at the back of the engine bay.

Simply tape it down and all will quiet again.

Or disconnect it - same thing electrically.

I had this same problem today in spring sunshine, right after an interview in the company car park!

Took your advice about the bonnet switch. On my '02 registered omega I found that the bonnet insulation had a nice dimple right where the switch connects, so it seems as Vauxhall had relied on the thickness of the bonnet insulation to finish operating the switch. After thinking of some imaginative names for the designer I go a rubber tap washer and stuck it to the bonnet behind the insulation using double sided tape. The insulation will protect the washer a bit and the extra thickness should ensure the switch operates OK when the bonnet is shut & still does its alarm job if some miscreant forces the bonnet.

Will let you know how it turns out. :)

Yep, it was the bonnet sensor - might have spent ages on this if it wasn't for the forum!
Bonnet sensor fixed, and working perfectly now!
Cheers to all again,
Edwin

The rubber washer trick didn't solve the problem with my Omega, in the end it was a dead battery on the battery backed siren so this is replaced using Autovaux to supply the bit and a tip i picked up to modify the bottom of a 2 litre soft drink plastic bottle to make a water shield for it. :)
