My alarm has started going off randomly , even whilst driving ! I believe there is some way of resetting it but any advice appreciated as people think I have nicked it ;D

In Liverpool, that might be a problem! ::) ;) ;) ;)

Sounds like your power sounder is failing ... try unplugging it for a short term fix !! It's below the scuttle, drivers side. I believe a new battery pack is expensive, but there was a thread on a possible repair using Ni-Cad rechargeables ...... ???

I considered putting that in myself so can't really chastise you ;D,
I doubt the police would catch me if it was, given the crap they are driving round in these days.

I had that in my old Astra, it was the powersounder.

yep. Had a 2.0 couple of weeks back with same, unplug it, to stop the noise. Obviously tho, if the alarm does genuinely trip, you will not hear it, just flashing indicators. That would worry me... Esp up your way. Can the sounder be had second hand? Anyone? Sorry for raceist slur.:y

Mine gave me grief recently, advised on here battery was most likely shot. enquired at stealers about replacement. Was just over £150. I would have been prepared to pay upto £50 but that was a mugging.
Theft basically considering they are sealed, vauxhall should offer parts that expire at a reduced cost.
Bloke at dealers was not impressed when I said vaux were a bunch of robbing b******s. ;D
Do a search for posts on here as one i saw mentioned splitting the sounder & replacing the battery, only good if the old one has not leaked btw

Powersounder battery is definately a favourite, but most of the ones I have seen have sadly leaked and done some damage. Have a trawl around some previous posts though, as this should be well documented somewhere.

Agreed. If it's got to the point when it's going off spuriously you'll probably find something like the following inside:

The muck that leaks out of the batteries is conductive and once it's got under all the surface mount components it's not really worh bothering to attempt a fix.
If the battery has purely failed without leaking you'll get 4 pips from the sounder occasionally but it shouldn't go off at random.
